From Text to Application
Move from a scripture to a concrete, doable application without moralizing.
The teaching
Reading a text is not teaching a text. Teaching means the listener knows what to do on Monday.
Use three moves: read, reason, apply. Read the verse. Reason on one phrase. Apply it to one situation.
Warmth carries conviction further than volume does. Speak as one helping, not one correcting.
Example
Read the verse, isolate the phrase 'quick to listen', then apply it to a single conversation the listener will have this week.
- Read, reason, apply.
- One phrase, not the whole verse.
- Application must be specific and doable this week.
Drill
1
